Let Dogs In Just Got a Whole Lot Louder: Toronto Dog Moms Joins the Campaign

Big news for the LET DOGS IN campaign. Toronto Dog Moms is now officially on board with Let Dogs In, and if you know anything about the dog community in Toronto, you know exactly how significant that is. For years, Toronto Dog Moms has been the go-to voice for pet parents across the city. They champion local small businesses, maintain trusted dog friendly directories, and have built one of the most engaged pet-owner communities in Canada. Their members know the problem we are trying to solve because they deal with it every weekend.

You walk down Roncesvalles or through the Junction with your dog. You are welcome in the boutiques, the coffee shops, on the TTC. Then you get to a neighbourhood craft brewery that serves nothing but canned beer and boxed chips, and the door closes. It makes no sense, and here is the thing most people do not realise: Ontario already fixed this on paper, the province updated its Food Premises Regulation in 2020 to explicitly allow dogs inside venues without kitchens. The law changed. The doors did not.

That is what LET DOGS IN is about.

Not asking for special treatment, just making sure a regulation that already exists actually works in practice. Patchy guidance and inconsistent enforcement across local health units have left taproom owners confused about what they are allowed to do. Many play it safe and say no, even when the answer is already yes.

Same country, same responsible dog owners, completely different rules depending on which side of a provincial border you happen to live on. A dog owner in Toronto can sit with their pup in a taproom that serves no food, while a dog owner in Vancouver doing the exact same thing is told no. That is not a health and safety argument. That is just inconsistency.
