About The Roch Society

The Roch Society is a magazine and members club for those who travel with their dogs. We write about the latest research, great hotels, dog friendly cities, and the interesting things, ideas and people that matter to dog owners. Every dog, every journey, welcome.

Why We Do It

A dog is family, and a journey is better with the family along. Too much of travel still treats a dog as a problem to be managed, a fee in the small print, a weight limit at the door, a polite no. We take our name from St Roch, the patron saint of dogs, and our mission is a simple one: a world where the dog comes too. We get there by showing what good looks like and by telling our readers plainly what the rules are, so they can travel with confidence.

What We Write About

Not just travel. We write about the research that shows how dogs are really treated, the hotels that do it properly, the cities worth the trip, and how to get there with a dog by air, road, rail and sea. We interview the founders and makers building a more dog friendly world, and we write about the ideas, the people and the questions that interest anyone who shares their life with a dog.

The Society is published by Roch Dog, the standards body behind the Roch Dog Friendly Standard, which assesses and ranks more than three thousand hotels in fifty six countries on how they actually treat a dog. Nobody can buy a place in the magazine, and nobody can buy a grade. When we say a hotel is one of the finest, we have checked.
