Nichols Arboretum is the one to do first, either as the Nichols Arboretum Loop Trail or the longer Oxford Loop, running down through the trees towards the river. North of it, Bird Hills Trail and the Bird Hills Nature Area Loop give you the steepest ground in the city, and the Barton Nature Area Loop follows the water.
For the quieter woodland walk, Eberwhite Woods and Saginaw Forest Loop sit west of the centre, and the Ann Arbor Ramble Trail links things up for a longer wander. The Nelson Meade Fitness Loop and its Outer Loop handle the straightforward miles when you want distance without navigation.
