Dog Friendly City Guide: Nashville, USA

A dog friendly guide to Nashville: the Warner Parks and greenways, the city's dog-named cafes and brewery taprooms, the best hot chicken and barbecue, and its certified dog friendly hotels.

Dog Friendly City Guide: Nashville, USA
Nashville's AT&T tower at dusk, the city's most recognisable landmark and the heart of Music City.

Nashville runs on music, and it turns out the dog is welcome at the after-party. The honky-tonks spill onto patios, the breweries keep a yard, and the cafes were practically designed with a labrador in mind. Between sets there are the great Warner Parks and a web of greenways to walk it all off. Bring your walking shoes and your appetite for hot chicken.

Everything below comes from our own verified data, not the booking-site badges that pass for research elsewhere. Each place has been checked as genuinely dog friendly, and the hotels at the end are ranked against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard.

Where to Walk

The big walk is out west in the Warner Parks. The Mossy Ridge Trail loops through forest in Percy Warner, the Edwin Warner side does the gentler version, and Harpeth Woods ties them together. Closer to town, the Stones River Greenway and the Ted Rhodes levee path follow the water, and Fort Negley gives you the Civil War earthworks and the skyline.

The Cafes, Bars and Breweries

Nashville's dog culture starts at the cafe: Fido in Hillsboro Village is the institution, with Frothy Monkey, Steadfast Coffee and Cafe Coco close behind, and Double Dogs builds the dog right into the name. For a drink, The Goat, Tin Roof and the Pub Nashville keep the patios full, and the breweries hold up the rest: TailGate Brewery, Tennessee Brew Works, East Nashville Brew Works and the sausage-and-beer hall Von Elrod's.

Hot Chicken, Barbecue and Pizza

The food is half the reason to come. Party Fowl does the hot chicken, Edley's Bar-B-Que the brisket and ribs, and Urban Grub the smart Southern table. For a slice, 312 Pizza, Rock'n Dough and Sho Pizza Bar all keep patio room.

Where to Stay

Which leaves the bed. The Hutton Hotel and the historic Hermitage Hotel lead Nashville's certified list on a B, with the Grand Hyatt behind them, each rated and reviewed so you know what the welcome is worth before you book.
