Dog Friendly City Guide: Denver, USA

A dog friendly guide to Denver: the city parks and the Cherry Creek trail, the dog-named hot-dog stands and brewpubs, the best barbecue and pizza, and its certified dog friendly hotels.

Dog Friendly City Guide: Denver, USA
Denver's downtown skyline with the Rocky Mountains behind it, a city where trails start at the edge of town.

Denver does the outdoors as a default setting, and the dog is assumed. The air is thin and bright, the foothills are an hour west, and the city itself keeps big parks, a creek-side trail and a craft brewery on what feels like every block. The patios run nine months of the year and the welcome is uncomplicated: a yes, a bowl, and room to stretch out.

Everything below comes from our own verified data, not the booking-site badges that pass for research elsewhere. Each place has been checked as genuinely dog friendly, and the hotels at the end are ranked against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard.

Where to Walk

In town, Cheesman Park and Washington Park are the great green commons where the whole city seems to walk its dog, and the Cherry Creek Trail threads paved miles right through the centre. When you want the climb, Green Mountain rises just west of the city for the foothill views and the open sky.

Hot Dogs and Brewpubs

Denver has a thing for the dog, on the plate and over the door. Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs does the city's wildest hot dogs and Steve's Snappin Dogs the classic snap, while the Ugly Dog Sports Cafe and the British Bulldog carry the theme to the bar.

For beer, Wynkoop Brewing is the LoDo original, with Denver Beer Co and Bruz Beers close behind, and the Irish corners Nallen's and Scruffy Murphy's keep a stool for the dog.

Eating and Coffee

For the table, Yazoo BBQ does the barbecue, Sexy Pizza the slice, and the Denver Central Market gathers it all under one roof. Cana Wine Bar pours by the glass, The Delectable Egg handles brunch, and Rivers and Roads Coffee and Syrup cover the caffeine by City Park.

Where to Stay

Which leaves the bed. The theatrical Hotel Teatro downtown and the Sonesta Downtown lead Denver's certified list on a C, with the Sheraton Downtown and the Warwick behind them, each rated and reviewed so you know what the welcome is worth before you book.
