Learn About The Roch Society

We believe that dogs are not just 'pets'; they are cherished family members, irreplaceable companions, and quiet healers. We believe that our world becomes immeasurably richer, kinder, and more joyful when the bond between humans and dogs is celebrated and woven into the fabric of our lives and communities. The Roch Society is a passionate and charitable community of writers dedicated to championing this truth and making this vision a vibrant reality.
Our Mission
The Roch Society is a charitable society powered by a dedicated team of volunteer writers. Inspired by St. Roch, the patron saint of dogs, we are committed to fostering a world where dogs are cherished and included, by sharing knowledge, research, best practices, and advocating for their welfare through our writing.
- Nurture Emerging Voices: We provide a professional platform for emerging writers and students to publish their writing alongside their peers. We offer editorial guidance and mentorship, helping writers develop their craft and publish work that elevates public discourse.
- Promote Public Education and Research: We gather, conduct, curate, and disseminate research focused on human-animal bond, canine behavior, welfare, and responsible dog ownership through accessible writing to promote safe, healthy, and respectful cohabitation.
- Guide Inclusive Best Practices: We develop and promote comprehensive best practices, and educational materials to help communities, businesses (cafes, restaurants, shops, and hotels), public amenities (parks and transport), and understand canine inclusivity.
- Advance Advocacy and Policy: We research, develop, and promote best-practice guidelines for creating and maintaining dog-friendly public and community spaces. Our published content is designed to inform and influence policymakers, planners, and governmental authorities.
- Uplift Canine Causes: We shine a light on the work of dog-focused charities through thoughtful, mission-driven writing that raises awareness and public understanding. Where possible, we also provide financial support by redistributing donations and funds we receive.
This vital mission thrives on collective energy and diverse talents. If your heart beats for our four-legged friends and you believe in the power of shared stories and collective action to inspire change, we invite you to become part of our journey. Lend your skills as a volunteer, bring a fresh perspective as an intern, or offer your support as a helper; together, we will build a friendlier world for dogs.
