Every Wednesday evening on the Bayside Terrace of the [InterContinental Miami](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/intercontinental-miami-an-ihg-hotel?ref=rochsociety.com), the market stalls go up, the cool-down fountains come on, and the dogs of downtown Miami arrive for Paws Patio with their owners a step behind. It has become the city's dog party, and it is one reason the hotel has just been named Hotel of the Year in the 2026 [Canine Hospitality Awards](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/?ref=rochsociety.com), the honours Roch Dog gives to the hotels that welcome dogs better than anyone else on earth. Seven hotels won this year, in Miami, Huntington Beach, London, Aspen, Miami Beach and Florence.

The awards are not a vote and not a shortlist drawn up over lunch. Every hotel in the Roch Dog directory is graded on more than seventy verified points, from where a dog may go on the property to what is waiting for it in the room, and the winner in each category is simply the highest score, checked in person before the name goes on the page. No hotel can pay to win, and the class of 2026 holds its title for one year only, after which the field is scored again.

Last year we published [The World's Best Dog Friendly Hotels in 2025](https://rochsociety.com/worlds-best-dog-friendly-hotels-2025/), a list of the hotels we expected to contest the awards once they existed, and the InterContinental Miami led that list too. These are the first seven to win one.

## Hotel of the Year: InterContinental Miami

The InterContinental is a 34 storey tower on the water's edge of downtown Miami, with a palm lined baywalk at its feet and Bayfront Park across the street. Pietro Belluschi designed it in 1982 around a sculpture, Henry Moore's Spindle, eighteen feet of travertine that still rises through the centre of the lobby. There are 652 rooms, 22 of them suites, looking over the city or Biscayne Bay, Richard Sandoval's Pan-Latin steakhouse Toro Toro, the rooftop bar Bluewater, and SkyLawn, 35,000 square feet of rooftop green beside the fifth floor pool deck. It holds the AAA Four Diamond award, and Newsweek put it at the top of its 2025 ranking of American hotels for travellers with pets.

It won [Hotel of the Year](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/hotel-of-the-year?ref=rochsociety.com) because it holds the highest score in the entire Roch Dog directory, for the second year running, and because the welcome does not stop at the bedroom door. Every one of the rooms takes dogs, there is no weight limit, and your dog is welcome on the terrace, through the public areas and into the garden.

In the room there is a bed, proper bowls and the custom InterContinental Miami bandana that half the dogs in the Paws Patio photographs are wearing, and a jar of treats waits at the desk. Book the [Pets and Points package](https://www.icmiamihotel.com/discover/dog-friendly-hotels-miami?ref=rochsociety.com) and the dog arrives to a welcome box with dehydrated chicken chips from a small local maker, and you collect a bonus of IHG points.

Dinner comes up from the hotel kitchen under a silver cloche. The Pampered Pup Chicken Plate is organic chicken, gently cooked with nothing added, with raw carrots in a small bowl, and the Luxe Pup Steak Bowl is chopped steak with crisp carrots on the side: plain food a dog can eat every night of a stay.

Then there is Rocco, the hotel's Paw d'Or Dog Concierge, a title that nods to the golden keys of the Clefs d'Or. Rocco arrives in your pocket on WhatsApp at check in and answers in his own voice at any hour, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German or Italian: the nearest dog beach, the closest patios in Brickell for dinner, how to order from the dog menu, the walkers and sitters the hotel trusts, and, before anything else, an emergency vet that is open at two in the morning. We told his story in [The Concierge Is a Dog](https://rochsociety.com/dog-friendly-review-intercontinental-miami-hotel/).

Start the day in Bayfront Park, where there is a fenced dog run, then follow the palm lined Baywalk along the water. For the beach, Hobie Beach on the Rickenbacker Causeway is a short drive away, and dogs go off the lead in the shallow water with the skyline behind them. Should anything go wrong, the hotel holds a formal partnership with Chewy Vet Care and keeps a vet on call.

And if it is Wednesday, come back for Paws Patio: free, five until seven, running for more than five years now, with pup cups for the dogs and special editions worth planning a trip around, a Yorkie meet up, a Howl-o-Ween costume party and an ugly sweater night in December. The rest of the city, from the Bark Beaches to the best dog table in Coconut Grove, is in [our Miami city guide](https://rochsociety.com/dog-friendly-city-guide-miami-usa/).

## Best Canine Menu: Paséa Hotel & Spa, Huntington Beach

[Paséa Hotel & Spa](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/pasea-hotel-spa?ref=rochsociety.com) stands on the Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach with the sand and the Pacific straight in front of it, its glass balconies curving towards the water. It is a beach hotel of the Surf City kind, with Aarna Spa, a pool ringed with cabanas and three places to eat: Lōrea, the oceanfront restaurant where chef de cuisine Dan Perry cooks from local produce under the banner of land, sea and libations, Treehouse on PCH upstairs with the ocean laid out below, and Blend Café for coffee. In 2026 the readers of USA Today's 10Best placed it first in California and second in the whole country among hotels for travellers with pets.

[Best Canine Menu](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/best-canine-menu?ref=rochsociety.com) goes to the kitchen that cooks for dogs as seriously as it cooks for people, and Fido's Menu at Lōrea is a full card. The Barkuterie Board is a spread of fresh dog salumi, peanut butter, carne secca, apples and heirloom carrots, and the Steak Tartare is raw chopped beef under a sunny side up egg, with carrots and sweet potatoes. There is a Beef Brisket Sandwich with roasted potatoes, a Barky Breakfast Bowl of scrambled eggs, sausage and black beans, a Doggie Skillet of two over easy eggs, ham and root vegetables, Grilled Chicken and Veggies on farro and kale, and a six pack of Peanut Butter Bacon Truffles for later.

Fido's Happy Hour runs Monday to Friday from three until six, with 20 per cent off every dog entrée, and each plate arrives at the table like anything else on the order. The card sits among the best in [our guide to the world's best hotel dog menus](https://rochsociety.com/a-guide-to-the-worlds-best-dog-food-menus-for-hotels-canine-fine-dining/).

The welcome runs well beyond the table. Dogs on a lead are welcome at Lōrea, at Treehouse on PCH and at Blend Café, so the dog eats where you eat. A bed, bowls and treats are waiting in the room, and the hotel keeps a private dog park, Paw-Séa, complete with a lifeguard tower dog house. Book the Very Important Pet package and the dog eats one entrée from Fido's Menu on the house, collects a VIP passport to redeem in the lobby and at Blend Café, and goes home with a keepsake collar, a lead and a toy. The hotel sets it all out on [its own page for travelling with pets](https://www.paseahotel.com/experience/traveling-with-pets/?ref=rochsociety.com).

Huntington Dog Beach is less than two miles up the coast, the place for off lead time in the surf. Surf City's boardwalk begins a few steps from the door, and a dog here can spend the day outdoors and come back to a steak tartare.

## Best Canine Concierge: The Lanesborough, London

At Hyde Park Corner, [The Lanesborough](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/the-lanesborough-oetker-collection?ref=rochsociety.com) gives your dog its own concierge. The hotel is a Regency mansion turned Oetker Collection grande dame, with the park across the road and the shops of Sloane Street and Knightsbridge, Harrods and Harvey Nichols among them, a short walk away. Every room and suite comes with a butler on call around the clock, and the Lanesborough Club & Spa came with the Alberto Pinto renovation.

The dining rooms are The Lanesborough Grill, where Shay Cooper cooks modern British food, the Library Bar, The Withdrawing Room, home of an award winning afternoon tea, and The Garden Room, a cigar lounge with a sunny terrace. The newest additions are balcony rooms and terrace suites, and Le Café LPM, a fresh take on La Petite Maison. [The hotel's own site](https://www.oetkerhotels.com/hotels/the-lanesborough/?ref=rochsociety.com) has the rest.

[Best Canine Concierge](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/best-canine-concierge?ref=rochsociety.com) goes to the team that does the most for the dog in room 12, and here that is a dedicated Pet Concierge who books the groomer, arranges the walks and sees to whatever else a dog needs across a stay. Your dog arrives to bespoke bedding, its own bowls and a welcome treat, and dogs stay free. It can join you for a drink in The Withdrawing Room or the Library Bar. Tell the team about a particular diet, a medication or a birthday and it is handled, and the best walking routes come with the key.

Hyde Park begins across the road, and the Royal Parks welcome dogs with responsible owners, so the question of where to walk before breakfast answers itself. London beyond the park is generous too: a dog rides the Tube for nothing with a paying passenger, and a surprising number of pubs and grand hotel bars will let it in. The ones that mean it, and the heaths and pub walks worth a morning, are in [our London city guide](https://rochsociety.com/dog-friendly-city-guide-london/).

## Most Pampered Pup: The Cadogan, London

Across town on Sloane Street, [The Cadogan](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/the-cadogan-a-belmond-hotel-london?ref=rochsociety.com) is Belmond's only London hotel, and it indulges a dog like nowhere else in the city. The house opened in 1887 at the point where Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Belgravia meet, was refurbished from 2017 and reopened under Belmond in 2019, and it is small: 54 keys, 15 rooms and 37 suites, plus two signature suites named Oscar and The Cadogan Penthouse.

Willett's, the neighbourhood British bistro, is Executive Chef Michael Turner's, with sourdough crumpets at breakfast and braised lamb shoulder on a Sunday, and The Drawing Room does afternoon tea from morning to evening. Spa treatments are by Minimal by Hadda, and guests have the private tennis courts in the gardens over the road. The detail is on [Belmond's own page for the hotel](https://www.belmond.com/en/hotels/europe/uk/the-cadogan-london?ref=rochsociety.com).

[Most Pampered Pup](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/most-pampered-pup?ref=rochsociety.com) is about spoiling, and nobody else in London has anything like The Cadogan's partnership with Pet Pavilion, the city's most celebrated groomer. The treatments run from a bath and blow dry to a dog facial and a manicure and pedicure. In the room your dog finds Pet Pavilion bowls and bedding, treats and toys, and a canine room service menu of homemade dinners that the butler brings up. Dogs stay free.

Then there is the garden. Guests of The Cadogan hold keys to Cadogan Place Gardens, the private square directly across the road, a privilege only a handful of London hotels can offer, and the hotel will pack a picnic to take in. So the leafy walk before dinner is part of the address, with Sloane Square five minutes away, where Colbert welcomes dogs in its bar and on its terrace. Every hotel we have ranked in the city is on [our London page](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-cities/london?ref=rochsociety.com).

## The Great Outdoors: Aspen Meadows Resort, Colorado

[Aspen Meadows Resort](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/aspen-meadows-resort?ref=rochsociety.com) is spread across the forty acre campus of the Aspen Institute at the west end of Aspen, with the Roaring Fork River below it and Aspen Mountain across the valley. It is the work of Herbert Bayer, the Bauhaus master who came to Colorado in 1946 and shaped the town for the best part of thirty years, and his white pavilions sit lightly in the meadow among his own earthworks: the Grass Mound of 1955, the Marble Garden and the climbable mounds of Anderson Park. The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies, opened in 2022, explains it all for nothing.

All 98 rooms are suites of around 600 square feet with the mountains in the window. West End Social serves the Rocky Mountain cooking of Executive Chef Justin Kalaluhi in the dining room, at the bar and on a deck with 270 degree views, the Meadows Café does coffee and breakfast, and the 25 metre outdoor pool runs heated and saline through the winter, with a hot tub beside it for after the trail.

[The Great Outdoors](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/the-great-outdoors?ref=rochsociety.com) goes to the hotel with the finest ground for a dog to roam, and forty acres of Rocky Mountain campus won it: wildflowers and trails in July, snow to the treeline in January, and paths leading straight off the lawns into the hills, so the walk after dinner can go as far as you like. Every one of the 98 suites takes dogs, two can come, there is no weight limit, and the room is ready with a bed, bowls, a treat and toys. The resort runs a dog walking service and hands out bags, and the team will point you to the right trail. [The resort's dog friendly page](https://www.aspenmeadows.com/rooms/dog-friendly?ref=rochsociety.com) is where to book.

What lifts the place is the party. On a Yappy Hour evening the lawn fills with dogs and their people, pup cups come out, the peaks turn pink, and a good share of Aspen's golden retrievers turn up, because word gets round in a small mountain town; the Aspen Times has written it up more than once. The staff give their own time to a local canine charity, which tells you who they are. We have written the resort up at length in [The Great Outdoors: Aspen Meadows Resort](https://rochsociety.com/the-great-outdoors-aspen-meadows-resort/).

Beyond the campus, the Rio Grande Trail runs flat along the Roaring Fork from the edge of town, Smuggler Mountain Road climbs to an observation deck with the valley laid out below and is one of the rare trails where a watched dog may run free, and in summer the Silver Queen Gondola carries dogs up Aspen Mountain for nothing, in cabins marked with paw prints, for lunch on the patio at the Sundeck. Wagner Park in the middle of town is where the locals throw balls. [Our Aspen city guide](https://rochsociety.com/dog-friendly-city-guide-aspen-colorado/) has the walks and the patios, and [our Aspen page](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-cities/aspen?ref=rochsociety.com) ranks every hotel in town.

## The Rising Star: Loews Miami Beach

[Loews Miami Beach](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/loews-miami-beach-hotel?ref=rochsociety.com) sits on the sand at 1601 Collins Avenue, at the centre of South Beach and its Art Deco district, with the beach at the end of the garden. It is big in the way Miami Beach hotels were meant to be: 790 rooms and suites built around the St. Moritz, a 1939 Deco tower restored and folded into the resort, with a newer tower beside it, and a $55 million renovation has just redone every room from the lobby to the last oceanfront suite.

The pool deck is the size of a small park, with cabanas, a jacuzzi and a gate straight onto the sand. Rao's, the New York institution, has its Miami Beach outpost in the St. Moritz tower, Bistro Collins does the all day dining and Nautilus the drinks, there is a sushi bar and Miami Joe for the mornings, and Sea Spa sits on the spa level of the old tower.

[The Rising Star](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/the-rising-star?ref=rochsociety.com) is for the newcomer of the year, and Loews earns it on two counts: the renovation, and the dog programme that arrived with it, fully formed. Loews Loves Pets has run across the group long enough to be part of the hotel's character, and here your dog is met with a monogrammed bowl on its own mat, a tag for the collar, a tag for the door so housekeeping knows who is in residence, and a treat to say hello. Gourmet room service menus for dogs and cats come from the same kitchen that feeds you.

The hotel sells dog food should you run short on a long trip, hands out bags and walking routes, and the concierge will find a walker for a long lunch or a sitter for a night out. There is a dedicated dog area on the property, the staff are trained for canine guests, and an emergency vet's number is kept at the front desk. It is all set out on the hotel's own [Loews Loves Pets](https://www.loewshotels.com/miami-beach/loews-loves-pets?ref=rochsociety.com) page.

Set the alarm for the beach. The sand at 21st Street, a few minutes north of the hotel, is where Miami Beach lets dogs off the lead, from seven until nine in the cooler months and nine until eleven through the summer, and a dog tearing along the wet sand at sunrise with the Atlantic to itself is worth getting up for.

The paved Beachwalk runs past the back door for the length of the island, Lummus Park is a palm lined ribbon of green along Ocean Drive, and South Pointe Park at the tip of the island has its own off lead hours. For lunch, Front Porch Cafe on Ocean Drive brings the water bowl before the menu. We wrote the hotel up in [Bring The Big Dog](https://rochsociety.com/loews-miami-beach-hotel/), and every hotel on the island is ranked on [our Miami Beach page](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-cities/miami-beach?ref=rochsociety.com).

## Boutique of the Year: La Gemma, Florence

A short walk from the Duomo on Via dei Cavalieri, [La Gemma](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-hotel/hotel-la-gemma?ref=rochsociety.com) has thirty-nine rooms and suites, and in a house that size the staff know your dog's name by the second morning. It was built by a Florentine family and still runs like one, and the rooms take their colours from the Duomo itself: marble, brass and hand finished tailoring run through the building, the Junior Suites look straight at the cathedral, and the Loft Suites sit under the old attic beams.

Luca's, the restaurant, earned its first Michelin star this year under Paulo Airaudo, Argentine born to an Italian family and trained in kitchens from San Sebastián to London, with Vittorio De Palma beside him cooking Tuscany by the season. Allure, the spa, works with Biologique Recherche. [The hotel's own site](https://www.lagemmahotel.com/florence/?ref=rochsociety.com) tells the family's story.

[Boutique of the Year](https://rochdog.com/canine-hospitality-awards/2026/boutique-of-the-year?ref=rochsociety.com) is for the small hotel that knows every dog by name, and a house of thirty-nine rooms is the shape of it. Every room is dog friendly, with no weight limit, and your dog arrives to a bed, bowls, dog food and treats, with a toy for the room. The hotel hands out bags for walks and will arrange a groomer during the stay, and dogs are welcome in the bar, on the terrace and in the lounge, so your dog shares the hotel's social life rather than waiting upstairs while you have your aperitivo.

Florence is a walkable Renaissance city where a dog on a lead is a normal sight in the piazzas, helped by a 2008 law that opens many public places to dogs, and few cafés will wave a quiet one off the terrace. The team will point you to the walks, along the Arno and through the squares: cross the river for the shade of the Cascine, the city's big park, or climb the Rampe del Poggi to Piazzale Michelangelo for the view over the rooftops, then eat at Il Santo Bevitore in Oltrarno, where dogs are welcome as standard. Every hotel we have ranked in the city is on [our Florence page](https://rochdog.com/dog-friendly-cities/florence?ref=rochsociety.com).

The seven winners share one thing. None of them treats a dog as something to be permitted. The dog has a bed, a bowl, a place at the bar or on the terrace and somewhere to run, and the people behind the desk know its name. That is what the awards measure, and next year every one of these hotels will have to earn its place again. Until then, every Wednesday at five, the stalls go up on the Bayside Terrace.
